This is a counterpart of a real
bookshop. You may look at books and buy them here. However they
are not "tangible", but come in electronic form. Nevertheless,
at home you may read them on the screen or print them out on a
printer. In both cases they will look like a real book bought in
a bookshop.
Today books are "set" exclusively with the aid of computer programmes. These create so-called "postscript files" which are sent to a print works and it then produces the traditional books. Postscript files are easier to transfer to PDF format with which everybody, even a layman, can work. Yet the book still has the same format, layout, lettering and pictures as designed by the artist and produced by the typesetter.
Any operating system can be used
(Windows, MacOS X, Linux), a program for
opening ZIP files (WinZip, WinRar, TotalCommander, in WinXP
Search etc.) and the firm Adobe's programme AcrobatReader - in
version 6 or later. It is free of charge; if you don't
have it on your computer, you can usually find it on most CDs
sold with computer magazines. We recommend version 8: which is
completely in Czech and includes a full text search. You can
also download it
here.
1. Select a book, read its annotations or a sample in pdf, which is available on the Internet. (This will give you more of an idea of what the book looks like and how to work with it in electronic form so that you do not end up buying a pig in a poke...)
2. Decide whether you want the version designed only for the browser on the screen (as you will not be able to print it out on your printer at home), or whether you want the version for browsing on the screen and for printing (printable version may contain pictures in worse quality than printed book; it is because of we try to reduce the size of downloaded files) . 3. You can download the selected book straightaway. However if you try to open it, the programme will not allow this and will require a password. You can only obtain the password after payment. 4. Please send the required amount credited to
Likewise send a message to our email address libri@libri.cz,
5. As soon as the payment is made, we will send you the password with which you can check the book. You will pay approx. 60 % of the full price for a book, which you can browse through on the screen and print; whereas you only pay approx. 40 % of the full price for a book you can only browse through on the screen. |
